Worship Ministry Tip 12

Worshipping God outside Church

“A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, 'darkness' on the walls of his cell.” - C.S. Lewis

The fundamental truth is God already has excellent worship setup in Heaven 24/7: Isaiah 6:1-4 and Revelation 4:8 bear testimony to this fact. This means our worship does not add much to Him and as C. S. Lewis put it, nothing much is diminished from God either if we do not worship Him.

One of the most humbling revelations about worship is, “It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High” (Psalm 92:1), meaning our worship is good for usand not God. For the more we worship God, the more we are humbled and transformed to become the persons God wants us to be.

Participating in Worshipping God inside the Church on a Sunday is pretty easy – but what about the other 6 days of the week?

Consider Psalm 100:4. For the Israelites, worship started with thanksgiving right at the gates of their Temple; they were not waiting to come inside to start their singing of worship songs. Many of us do the opposite i.e. starting and ending our worship inside Church.

Consider scriptures like Isaiah 29:13 or Isaiah 1:15-17. God’s requirements are that we live a life of worship first and then we express that way of life when we are inside the Church – in gathering, in music, in singing, in breaking of the Bread etc. Then we would be able to offer the worship that God is looking for. Otherwise we are nothing more than part time lovers.

So here are 22 ways (in no particular order) to worship God outside the Church to get you started:

  1. Maintain a consistent habit of daily personal prayer (Mark 1:35).

  2. Memorize at least one scripture verse every day.

  3. Keep a prayer journal.

  4. Fight and overcome any sins you are struggling with, one at a time (Romans 12:1).

  5. Be kind and supportive to the helpless people whom you encounter (Isaiah 1:17, Acts 20:35)

  9. Learn a new worship song (Psalm 33:3).
