Worship Ministry Tip 13

Daily habits for worship leaders taught by Jesus

A worship leader can sing like an angel, play the guitar/piano with utmost skill, know the latest songs, possess great stage presence etc. But without these two daily habits, he/she won't be very different from an empty vessel making a lot of noise:

1. Personal Prayer

1 Corinthians 3:16 says my body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Am I a suitable dwelling place for Him to dwell in me? "for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations." -Isaiah 56:7.

2 questions for self examination:

- Am I a house of prayer?

- Or is my walk with God compartmentalized to Sunday Church and weekly worship team rehearsals?

Jesus is Our Model

  • He prayed alone, every morning

  • He prayed before important events (like choosing His disciples for example)

  • He prayed before performing miracles

  • He prayed even during his suffering on the Cross

2. Scripture Reading & Reflection

"You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you." - John 15:3

Prayer must go hand-in-hand with the Word of God; the Christian and the Bible should be inseparable. Again Christ is our example; He had the scriptures in His vocabulary at all times. Remember the temptations He faced, purification of the temple etc.

The worship leader should be in touch with the scriptures regularly, memorize them, reflect on them, pray them and believe in them. A Worship leader or any Christian for that matter should be willing to commit to daily personal prayer filled with the Word of God - How often do you pray/talk to God.

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s willfor you in Christ Jesus” - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Our God is a God of relationships - without a right relationship with Him developed through these habits, ministry will have no positive effect on anything, least of all the church.

What are your daily habits that that you consider unbreakable to continue walking with the Lord?
